Austin is the state capital of Texas, and is considered to be one of the finest places to live in the U.S.A. - so it is also a great place to visit. Known collectively as the Highland Lakes these were formed when the river was dammed. Of particular note is Zilker Park on Town Lake. French Legation Museum .
