Austin is the state capital of Texas, and is considered to be one of the finest places to live in the U.S.A. - so it is also a great place to visit. A centre of high-tech industry, Austin is located on the Colorado River, and is known for its lush leafy parks and leisure areas that surround the riverbank and the many lakes of the region. Known collectively as the Highland Lakes these were formed when the river was dammed. Of particular note is Zilker Park on Town Lake. The University of Texas-Austin is a noteworthy example of a state university.

French Legation Museum .
The oldest extant frame structure, the Legation was built in 1840-41 as a residence of the chargé d'affaires and now restored and decorated with items original to its time period.

O'Henry Museum .
